Edible Weed Walk – Science in the Kitchen Garden Workshop Series

Edible Weed Walk with Paulette Whitney, Andrew Crane and Karina Potter

Saturday 21 September 10am – 12pm

Many common weeds are edible, free and can provide nutrient dense food to supplement your diet. However, harvesting weeds requires proper identification and certainty about potential environmental contaminants to ensure that foraging is safe. Join weed specialists, Paulette Whitney, Karina Potter and Andrew Crane on a walk from a suburban food garden to the South Hobart Rivulet, learning about which weeds are edible and how chefs prepare them as well as some of the ecological uses of weeds as soil improvers, soil indicators and compost additives. Cost: $10, $5 Conc, by donation for SLT members.

  • It is refreshing to find a post that finds purpose with weeds and teaching others how to find some that are edible and can be made part of your diet instead of as an invasive species. Thank You!
